Before you start

  • A contract in plain text or PDF
  • A business-tier AI plan for any sensitive contract

Tools you'll use

  • ChatGPT (Team/Enterprise)
  • Claude (Work)
  • SynaBot

Steps

  1. 1

    Redact anything highly sensitive

Before pasting into a general AI tool, blank out account numbers, personal IDs and pricing you cannot share. Use a paid business plan for real deals.

  2. 2

    Ask for a plain-English summary

Prompt: "Summarize this contract in plain English. Sections I care about most: term, termination, IP ownership, liability cap, non-compete."

  3. 3

    Ask for a risk flag

"List the three clauses you would push back on if you were representing me. Explain why each is unusual and suggest wording."

  4. 4

    Ask about missing clauses

"What common clauses are missing that I should ask to have added?"

  5. 5

    Take it to your lawyer

AI is a great first pass. Real money and real legal risk need a real lawyer.

What you'll have at the end

A plain-English summary, a risk flag list, and a set of specific questions ready for your lawyer.
